Fifty years ago in the Bronx, a new genre of music was born, the product of a people searching for their voice and the opportunity to be heard. For decades, the community was bound by the words of leaders like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X before their assassinations attempted to thwart the messaging. While their lives ended, the impact of their words never would, instead paving the way for others. Soon, athletes and entertainers would step to the microphone and boldly become the sound of a new generation and an inspiration to their people. When the world looked to silence them, the culture found a way to speak louder than ever before. From Muhammad Ali to Public Enemy, Jay-Z to Lebron James and beyond, the impact on sports has been indelible.

He also produced the 33-track compilation CD which accompanied the series and co-wrote the book with Alex Ogg, also titled The Hip Hop Years.The series charts the definitive story of Hip Hop, rising from the streets of the Bronx to become, what Upshal calls, "the new Rock'n'Roll". The programmes combine archive clips and performance from TV, movies and music videos with specially shot material and interviews with key players.

NBC and Time Inc. present Sports Illustrated Swimsuit: 50 Years of Beautiful, a two-hour TV special celebrating the 50th anniversary of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit franchise.

The film seeks to address the cross section of music, specifically hip-hop, and the 1992 riots in Los Angeles. A Huffington Post article writes how the film shows that hip-hop music of the 1980s was bringing attention to poverty and police brutality in South Central Los Angeles long before mainstream media got involved in these issues through the riots heard throughout the country. 　　"Uprising" takes us through archival footage of the 1992 riots and interviews with residents of South Central LA who lived through the riots and can testify on the power of music throughout this time in LA's history. Ford, seeks to highlight, however, that violence in these neighborhoods of LA was nothing new when the riots started. Police brutality was there long before mainstream media and hip-hop culture was and has always been on a mission to expose these societal and institutionalized issues.
